internal navelgazing
The second stone of my website is laid: my outboard brain. Not much to see at the moment, other than my reading list, which is in order of the sites being updated, thanks to blogrolling.com.
It's good to be dipping my hand back into web work again, working for a few hours a day tidying things, getting things done.

wireless tithe
If you wander round London, trying to get a wireless connection, you're generally disappointed. Similarly, doing this, may be breaking the law.
I propose that any business that has a significant Internet connection (let's say 2Mb or more) should be required to provide a broadband net connection, connected to an open wireless node. Furthermore, it should be installed in every location that uses the fixed business Internet connection - not just provisioned at head office.
In my mind, this isn't a significant cost - two or three hundred pounds for equipment and installation, fifty or so pounds a month, per installation, and the benefits, and kickstart of the economy, would be greater than any kind of income tax. It's also progressive - the bigger a company, the more you have to provide, with most SMEs unaffected. As price comes down on fixed Internet connections for business, more wireless connectivity for the public is provided.
I've been thinking about the benefits and problems with this idea.

North looking South
It started out as a normal walk - a need to clear my head, on a sunny
unseasonably warm day. I considered walking over all the bridges, from
London Bridge to Vauxhall; but there's little of the two embankments I
haven't done. There seemed to be arbitrary doubling back, and little
insight into London. A more ordinate plan was the north bank, to the
Tower: Not a stretch I can remember doing recently (I remember someone
photographing skateboarders near Blackfriars some time ago - it seems
recent, but it was over five years I think).
