my goodness, my Guinness
The digital edition of The Guardian is free for a couple of weeks, so I'm getting to see English adverts for the first time in a while.
This struck me. It's great - using the Guinness toucan in the advertising again, but highlighted something sad: Guinness isn't brewed in London anymore.
There was a taste difference between the London and Dublin Guinnesses, no matter what they said about treating the London water to be softer. London Guinness had a slightly sharper metallic twang, which I liked. I'm drinking the Irish Guinness in memoriam at the moment, and it is softer and smoother, and still a really fantastic beer, but it's different. I miss London Guinness.
If you're the kind of person that thinks Guinness is too bitter, try this: add a single shot of vodka (no more, no less) to a pint of Guinness. It somehow makes it super sweet.
